Overall CPR will refurbish and reconstruct 300m of platform, raising it by 500mm. The project began on 1st May 2017 and is expected to be completed by 1st September 2017. The works will allow new, larger Caledonia Sleeper trains to run from London to the Highlands and bring economic benefits to the tourism industry and a better visitor experience.
The platform reconstruction works include foundations with excavation and concrete pour. The platform will be re-built with new brickwork and copes in partnership with others. CPR will then excavate and install chambers and ducting for utilities (CCTV and Lighting). Existing lighting columns will be removed and repositioned. Footpaths will also be upgraded with new foundation works, plus sub-base and kerbing, before being surfaced with base coat and wearing coat.
