ScotRail Platforms Transformed to Accommodate new 385 Trains

Class 385 are the new electric trains from ScotRail. They were introduced on the Glasgow to Edinburgh line in July 2018. To accommodate the new stock, Network Rail have to extend the length of the platforms at stations along the routes where the new class 385’s are in place.

CPR have won a contract to carry out platform re-gauging works at 8 stations starting 15th August 2018 including;

1. Paisley Gilmour Street Station

2. Glengarnock Station

3. Gourock Station

4. Lochwinnock Station

5. Newton on Ayr Station

6. Saltcoats Station

7. Neilston Station

8. Troon Station

Each platform will require a new height for the cope. This means each platform cope will be lifted and re-laid with riser wall brickwork rebuilt where required. Where there are existing tactiles, drainage and manholes, monoblocks, ramps, and swan necks, these will also be replaced to accommodate the new heights.
